How are you observing Veterans Day 2013?

November 11th is the day set aside each year to honor the service of all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces—men and women who have served their country with strength, courage and dedication.     

Here are some ways you can help observe this 94-year old tradition called Veterans Day.

Honor veterans and active military personnel in your life by sending them free Veterans Day eCards.  Visit the USBA eCard Gallery to send the new 2013 design or any of the other Veterans Day eCards from past years.

Share your VetPride. Post a photo of your favorite veteran (or yourself if you’re former military) on our USBA Facebook page.  Help spread the word on Twitter: #VetPride. 

Wear your military medals on November 11th.  Every medal has a story.  Share yours with friends, family and others in your community.  A veteran’s medals are a reflection of his or her sacrifice, bravery and accomplishments. Wear yours as a proud patriot.

Save as you celebrate:  Check out this growing list of deals and discounts from businesses saying “thank you” to veterans, active duty, guard, reserve and retired military.  The list includes restaurants, grocery, and convenience stores including Applebee’s, Denny’s, Olive Garden, Krispy Kreme, 7-Eleven, and more. 

Visit a veterans’ hospital. Sharing experiences with elderly and injured veterans is a wonderful way to brighten the day of those who served on our behalf.  Take a child or grandchild with you to hear their fascinating stories--unforgettable history lessons.  

Support veteran-owned businesses. Spending your money at businesses owned or led by veterans is a way to show financial support for returning service members and their families.

In wartime and in peace, Veterans Day is an opportunity for Americans to honor the bravery and sacrifice of all veterans and those on active duty.  To each of you we say, “Thank you for your service.”
