Heading back-to-school after transitioning in 2014?

Recently, the Student Veterans of America (SVA), in partnership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and The American Legion, launched an interactive online map showing which states provide blanket in-state tuition for veterans at their colleges and universities—and which do not. This is a hot topic because many states still disqualify veterans from receiving in-state tuition based on residency policies that don’t acknowledge the unique circumstances of military life.

“This interactive map helps college-bound veterans understand the landscape of higher education and how SVA, VFW and The American Legion are working together to ensure public colleges and universities in every state offer a quality, reasonably-priced education to our newest generation of veterans,” said VFW Commander-in-Chief Bill Thien.

Veterans headed back to school should know about SVA. It’s a 501(c)(3) coalition of student veterans groups on college campuses around the world. Member chapters provide “boots on the ground” to help you integrate into campus life and succeed academically. Chapters provide peer-to-peer networking and other types of support for military veterans. Find a chapter near you.

Whether you’re headed back to school after transitioning or into the civilian work force, remember your SGLI ends 120 days after your service ends. USBA offers low-cost veterans group life insurance plans and other financial services to help protect your family’s financial future. Many veterans choose to purchase affordable USBA coverage before transitioning. Because it’s portable, you can take it with you no matter where you go and what you do.

USBA is a not-for-profit Association that provides group life insurance, health insurance supplements, and other products and services to military personnel, Federal employees, National Guard and Reserve members, Veterans and their families.
