Tax Day is April 15th. Did you know former and active U.S. military members can get free help preparing their taxes?

IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs are available to taxpayers who earned less than $53,000 in 2014. All tax returns completed through these programs are prepared by IRS certified volunteers. There are over 12,000 locations offering these services. Use the VITA Locator Tool to find a site near you or call 800-906-9887.

MyFreeTaxes operates the only free online tax preparation and filing assistance platform available in all 50 states and Washington D.C. for veterans, active duty military and their families who earned $60,000 or less in 2014. MyFreeTaxes is a partnership of three nationally recognized nonprofits – Goodwill Industries International, National Disability Institute and United Way – and is sponsored by the Wal-Mart Foundation.

For additional information about free tax preparation services for the military, read this article in the VA VAntage Point blog.
