| Dietrich Scholarship
The William A. Dietrich Memorial Scholarship Fund, offered by USBA Services, Inc., is annually awarded to the selected scholarship winner(s) as a non-renewable $2000 grant. The money awarded may be used at the recipient’s discretion for tuition, room and board. Grants will be sent directly to the institution the recipient plans to attend. Grants are not renewable or transferable.
Grants will be awarded based upon the qualifications identified below. Grants will be awarded to the most deserving individuals, regardless of the branch of the DoD or civilian agency represented by the applicant’s parent or grandparent and regardless of whether they are active, separated or retired.
Applications must be received at USBA no later than March 31 of the student’s senior year of high school. Send to: Dietrich Memorial Scholarship, USBA, P.O. Box 25956, Overland Park, KS 66225-0956.
To Be Considered for a Grant, the Applicant Must:
- Be a child, stepchild, foster child or grandchild of a USBA member in good standing both at the time of application and on scholarship payment date, if selected. Proof of support must be provided by sending a copy of a USBA member's income tax statement for the previous year. For a grandchild, a written statement from the child's parent is required. For foster child, member must also send a copy of court order placing child in member’s home.
- Be a graduating high school senior.
- Display good character and citizenship.
- Rank in top 20% of high school class. Extra-curricular activities will be a consideration.
- Provide a high school transcript through the first semester of senior year if possible.
- Provide a recommendation by high school principal or guidance counselor.
- Attach Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) score reports, if not already listed in your official school transcript.
- Provide a personally prepared, typed essay outlining career objectives, maximum of 250 words.
- Also provide a typed self-description, maximum 250 words. (See application for details.)
- Be accepted as a full-time student by a college or university in the United States or District of Columbia and provide a copy of acceptance notification. The grant will be paid in U.S. dollars.
NOTE:Those accepted to a military service academy or who receive ROTC scholarships are ineligible for this scholarship program.
