Veterans Day – A Day to Pay Tribute
11/8/2022
Each year on November 11, we observe Veterans Day--our opportunity to pay tribute to all American veterans who have served our Nation.
Originally called Armistice Day - this day of observance was established to commemorate the end of World War I. After World War II and the Korean War, however, various veterans’ organizations suggested a name change to broaden the meaning of the holiday to cover veterans of all wars. On June 1, 1954, Congress changed the word “Armistice” to “Veterans.”
Each year USBA produces an eCard to mark this special day, and shares it through emails, this blog and social media. USBA is proud to honor the men and women who have bravely served our country with our Veterans Day 2022 eCard.
This year we are especially honored to announce that a USBA Board Member has been selected as the Grand Marshal of the New York City Veterans Day Parade.
One of the ways we celebrate this holiday in the U.S. is with the New York City Veterans Day Parade. This year, USBA Board Member retired Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Vince W. Patton has been selected as Grand Marshal of the 2022 New York City Veterans Day Parade. This is a significant honor for Master Chief Patton, who retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in November 2002 after more than 30 years of active service.
If you’d like to show your appreciation on Veterans Day, consider the following ideas:
- Fly your American flags.
- Observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11.
- Shop at veteran-owned businesses.
- Attend a local Veterans Day parade.
- Volunteer at a local veteran’s organization or VA hospital.
- Donate to an organization that supports veterans.
- If you know someone serving overseas, send a care package. (Be sure to follow these mail guidelines)
